Whistler’s Fugue 2
Edition of 1
Drawing and Silkscreen

My interest in James McNeil Whistler occurred while reading his nocturne paintings could be viewed in the key of C. I thought about the process of turning a landscape into a musical representation. I began to set the landscape to music aiming to create a musical composition.
A fugue is a musical piece based on a short time or theme which appears constantly throughout, sometimes upside down, right side up, slowed down, speeded up or backwards. I have used this system or order to transpose Whistler’s landscapes to music.
